Computer Networks Helps IMAX Keep the Reels Running

25 March 2011

Australian IT support and technology infrastructure company, Computer Networks, has recently come to the aid of the Sydney IMAX Theatre. Having been in business for 15 years, the IMAX Theatre recognised a need to move with the times and upgrade their ticketing systems. Computer Networks came up with an integrated solution to help IMAX implement and manage the new ticketing system.

IMAX CEO, Mark Bretherton said “We have two key technology areas at IMAX. The first is ticketing. For this, we use the industry-standard, third-party, proprietary ticketing software, and they provide their own support. The second is hardware. This is something that really requires proper outside support.”

Computer Networks offered an integrated solution to both. They set up a software support service including a telephone help line and provided IMAX staff with a point of contact to install software and solve any issues. Computer Networks also offered a general diagnostic service which ensured that pre-emptive and proactive measures were taken, rather than just reactive solutions.

“Before Computer Networks, we didn’t have anyone within the business that was focused on keeping the technology running like it should. So if someone in our team couldn’t fix the problem, we were stuck,” said Bretherton.

“Computer Networks helps us manage, support and select the hardware that underpins our business. Not only do they advise us on what we should have now, but they explain how we should maintain it, right down to actually engaging us in doing that,” Bretherton continued.

One major proactive solution Computer Networks delivered was a back up ticketing system in times of emergencies or unplanned disasters. In the past, IMAX resorted to manual ticketing so that sales were not affected. However, this new system retrieves data with little to minimal loss of data, thereby enabling the company to avoid any unplanned downtime. The result is a secure and uninterrupted ticketing service that IMAX can readily rely on.

Of Computer Networks, the CEO of IMAX had nothing but praise. “They’re very, very helpful in assisting us in that sense. They have basically been nice people to work with, and more importantly, they have come to understand our business.”

The IMAX Theatre Sydney located in Darling Harbour is home to the world’s largest cinema screen. Using state-of-the-art screen, movie projection and sound systems, the IMAX is the future of film entertainment.
